The Adventure Begins

The adventure actually began back around the end of June. We started our homeschool adventure. We started out with just a couple of subjects: Math and Language Arts. As the month went on we added subjects one at a time. Now, during the first week of August, we have 8 subjects going: Math, Language, Spelling, Social studies, Science, Writing, Spanish, and Art. There are two things that I really need to do: join HSLDA and send the letter to the public school withdrawing my kids and asking for their records. HSLDA first! I am glad that the state I live in is homeschool friendly, but the added protection of a support system is a must. We have joined a homeschool group, which has a pool party planned to happen soon. My kids are looking forward to it.

A goodbye of sorts

Yesterday was our pastor's last day. His health no longer allows him to continue as our church leader, so he stepped down. Now begins the search for a new pastor, that is if the district does not decide to close the church altogether.

Headaches

I get them, a lot. Some are tension headaches, some are sinus. A few are migraines. I have one now. It is either a tension headache or the start of a migraine. Light is starting to bother me(which considering it is nice and sunny outside is not a good thing) so I am leaning toward a migraine. I hope not. They can put me out of commission for several days if it is a really bad one. I was hoping to get some outside work done. Need to finish my raised beds so that I can plant soon. Not today: too bright out. Soon, I hope and pray. Soon.

Home Education

My children have decided they want to try homeschooling. The plan is to start the second week after public school lets out for the summer and see how it goes. If it goes well, then we will continue in the fall and withdraw them from public school then. We will school all year long, not just 9 months of the year, taking breaks as needed. Right now, I am looking at Singapore Math for math of course :). For Language Arts, I am looking at a couple of options: CLE, Rod & Staff, and possibly Sonlight. I really like what I see for CLE and Rod & Staff, Sonlight not so much. I was looking for placement tests online for each, hoping that that will help us to see where we need to place the kids. Singapore I found and they are free! Yeah! I also found CLE online for free; another Yeah! Rod & Staff: not online and not free: BooHoo!We will be going to a curriculum fair this weekend as a family to see what other info we can find. For science, social studies and electives, I don't think that I will have too much of a problem finding things online for them to do. We will see.
